Emergency Evacuation Procedures in The Work Area
No one wants to have an accident in this world. This includes accidents that occur at work or accidents that appear to be caused by work. In fact, accidents are an emergency that can happen anytime and anywhere, without us guessing beforehand.
Although an emergency is an unforeseen situation, it still has to get quick, responsive, and serious treatment. Handling can also be an emergency response procedure for occupational safety and health.
Emergency evacuation planning procedures
Before performing emergency evacuation procedures in the work area directly, of course you must first make the planning. This planning should have been made in the first place and not just after the absence of OSH in the work area.
The contents of the planning procedure include:
- Starting from planning for control of the potential for emergencies using documentation methods. The documentation method is the method of creating a standard emergency, important numbers that can be contacted during an emergency. In addition, a clear organizational structure, tasks and responsibilities are neatly divided into emergency evacuation teams.
- Then, once planned, you can instantly socialize the standard of emergencies. This socialization aims to get employees to know how to handle emergencies properly.
- Once socialized, then conduct a trial. Of course, the emergency management is tailored to the schedule that has been set up by the evacuation team.
- As much as possible during the evacuation test, you need to prepare an emergency evacuation form. The form is used as a measuring tool for the employees’ ability to identify.
Emergency management
If an evacuation procedure has been established, the next is how it is handled in the event of an emergency. Here’s an explanation:
- Any employee who knows there is an emergency in the work area, it is mandatory to report it to the evacuation team.
- The evacuation team responsible for the safe work of employees must handle any emergency events. For example, an event such as a fire means using an extinguisher that complies with the standards of use of Lightweight Fire Extinguisher.
- If the emergency event cannot be handled by the evacuation team, then the team coordinator is tasked to contact the medical authorities or other more experts to ask for help.
- When the emergency is handled properly, the team coordinator needs to conduct an investigation with administration department no later than 2×24 hours.
- If things are under control, it’s a good idea to restore the work activity as it was.
- The results of the investigation that have been conducted are then stored in accordance with the record control procedure.
