What is Stress?
Stress is the body’s reaction when a person faces pressure, threats, or a change. A person usually experiences stress when the demands given to him are greater than his or her ability to cope. Stress can be experienced by anyone, from children to the elderly. Stress is an entirely natural reaction everyone experiences from time to time when faced with situations that make them feel depressed.
Stress can be divided into two types, namely external and internal stress. External stress is a stress that source comes from the surrounding environment. This can include trauma, life experiences, or everyday problems. While internal stress is stress that is sourced from within ourselves and it is the most common type of stress.
Can we live without stress?
We don’t live alone. We are part of the system of life. As an individual who has needs and lives alongside billions of other living things in a dynamic environment, it is a madness to hope things magically go our way. Stress is inevitable.
But, stress is not an absolute negative thing. Stress is an important mechanism for survival and can motivate us to face challenges or daily activities.
However, excessive stress response will cause distress and clinical disorders, such as persistent fatigue, burnout, anxiety, and a feeling of discomfort.
So how do our bodies respond to stressors (sources of stress) so that it can maximize our performance but can also bring us down?
