Zika Virus Origin: Name, Year, and Animal – Zika is a virus that expands using mosquitoes as a “courier”‘. According to Centers for Disease and Prevention, the type of mosquito that serves as the “courier” for Zika Virus is a species of Aedes aegypti and Ae aldopictus mosquitoes.

Actually, there are not only two mosquito species above that Zika virus can shed. Researchers found almost all members of the genus Aedes and some other types of mosquitoes can be boarded with this virus.

Zika virus is a virus that is the process of transmission through the media of the Mosquito Aedes aegypti. Still a family with other viruses such as viral causes of dengue fever, jaundice, and Chikungunya disease.

Some research has developed suspicions of the possibility of spreading this virus outside the mosquito media, such as through the process of blood transfusion and se**xual intercourse. Although this suspicion has not been proven true.

Later, this virus made first contact with humans thanks to a serological survey conducted in Uganda and Nigeria. The results of the survey showed from 84 people at all ages, 50 people proved to have antibodies against Zika with 40 people over 40 years.

In 1951-1981, spreading began to occur throughout Asia and Africa. In 2007, about 73 percent of the total population of Polynesia was affected by Zika virus.

In 2014, for the first time, Latin America has been infected Zika and after that, this virus is rapidly contagious to many countries.

The World Health Organization (WHO) assesses the disease associated with the Zika virus in Latin America in late 2015 to January 2016 has caused a health emergency for the community. Therefore, the WHO announces International health emergency Status.

Aedes aegypti Females are the main agents in the distribution of Zika. The existence of species that have crossed almost all over the world accelerated the circulation of Zika. Plus the faster human mobility, these mosquitoes can be found all over the world. Included in the countries of the North Equator, which is actually  not the ideal habitat for mosquitoes.

In line with “The Courier” spread, Zika virus develops in such a way that the transmission is no longer sourced from mosquito bites only. Blood transfusions, organ transplants, se**xual intercourse, and pregnancy are the other ways this virus is doubled.

However, a number of these causes are not all ensured entirely responsible for the transmission of Zika virus.

In 1951-1983, this virus began to infect humans. The report comes from several African countries such as Egypt, Gabon, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Microcephaly is a birth defect affecting infant brain development so the baby’s head is smaller than a normal baby with the same gender and age.

The one that causes Zika’s spread to be difficult to stop is its symptoms are difficult to distinguish with other fever diseases such as dengue fever, yellow fever, and malaria. Early symptoms of fever, red spots, joint pain, and red eyes often deceive people with these viruses so they often ignore these symptoms.
