There are uncountable reasons which irritate the skin and degrade its quality, such as:

Natural and organic products are relatively higher in price than chemical cosmetics, but are usually worth the difference. Such remedies have pure ingredients and only contain active moisturizing products, with comparatively less preservatives and negligible toxic chemicals; usually water-based products. Alcohol content and fragrance chemicals dry up the skin and cause irritation.

The Science behind Natural Remedies

The natural oil produced by the skin is known as sebum, which helps to protect the moisture loss, but is easily stripped off from the skin due to habits like washing hands with drying soap or forgetting to put on moisturizers et-cetera.

There are many ways to simply moisturize the skin with natural oils and body butters like castor oil, avocado oil, pure unrefined Shea butter and lavender oil et-cetera.

Studies show that people with dermatitis and other allergic skin conditions, characterized by itching and dryness, experienced excellent results when they used coconut oil and pure African Shea Butter on their skin. Aloe Vera is another ingredient, which is widely used all over the world for its natural healing properties, is an amazing moisturizer and oils. 

Use Regularly

Natural oils can be used in their purest forms by drizzling them into warm bath water, followed by a gentle patting to dry off. Avoid rubbing off the oil from the skin.

Some natural remedies to treat dry skin and some other skin conditions are as follows:

  • Olive oil cleanser

Olive oil is a great natural oil, which works as a natural moisturizer and cleanser. It can be applied by simply rubbing the oil on the skin and draping a warm, damp cloth over the skin until it cools off. Then, the excess oil needs to be wiped off. Olive oil does not strip off the natural oils of the skin; it only cleans the skin.

  • Pure Unrefined Shea Butter

Shea butter is extracted from the nuts of African Shea tree. It is considered one of the best body butters in the world, to be used as a sunscreen lotion, a body butter and a face cream et-cetera. There are multiple uses and benefits of Shea butter and the unrefined form is considered the purest and most beneficial for the skin. Shea butter masks are also used to enhance the quality of the skin and moisturize it naturally.

  • Olive oil & sugar scrub

A scrub made from sugar is an amazing exfoliating moisturizing scrub which is made by mixing sugar with olive oil and essential oils like lavender oil or sandalwood oil. It is not only a natural moisturizer, but also promotes relaxation and fragrance. It is applied by gently rubbing the scrub on the skin for a few minutes and then softly washing it away.

  • Avocado mask

Avocado masks can be made at home by taking an avocado and mixing it with olive oil and honey. The individual needs to apply the mask on the skin until it dries (15-20 minutes) and then wash it off. The skin is naturally moisturized and also doubles the hydration (as compared to regular moisturizers).

  • Oatmeal honey mask

When oatmeal is mixed with honey and water, it makes an amazing Exfoliator/ mask. The mixture needs to be warmed and then rubbed on the skin. It can either be left for 15-20 minutes on the skin (a soothing-hydrating mask) or just rubbed & washed away.

  • Easy oatmeal soaks

Bathing with oatmeal and warm water can naturally hydrate dry skin because the oat product is soothing for the skin and helps it to retain moisture.

Some Other Methods to Avoid Harm to the Skin

The skin needs to be constantly protected from the above mentioned irritants to avoid drying, irritation and many more skin conditions. The daily routine shall always include natural skin care routines, which might include the following:

  • Using natural soaps
  • Applying moisturizers everyday
  • Avoiding long exposures to the Sun
  • Protecting the skin from pollutants
  • Having appropriate eating habits
  • Drinking only clean water
